There aren't many positives to take in at the start of the Canadien's season, but there are still some great stories, like that of Jake Evans.

Indeed, the forward is playing very good hockey, probably the best of his career, while he has already collected 6 points in 13 games. That puts him on a projected 38 points for the season, which would be a record for him.

Having a 3rd or 4th line defensive center who produces so many points, while being one of the best in the NHL defensively, is worth gold. Additionally, Jake has an outstanding work ethic.

According to Martin Lemay, it is with this type of player that a team moves to the next level. Evans will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and Kent Hughes absolutely must sign him.

Of course, the Canadiens has good young people like Owen Beck and Oliver Kapanen who can fill this type of role, but it won't be in the short term. Jake Evans is currently irreplaceable in the organization.

"Jake Evans is ranked 2nd in the NHL among forwards in shorthanded minutes per game (3:19) and total shorthanded minutes played (29:54).

The Canadiens have an efficiency rate of 90.3% on the penalty kill, which places them 3rd in the NHL." - Via HabsOnReddit

He excels in his defensive missions and he also produces in attack. Once again Tuesday night, he served a superb pass to Joel Armia to score shorthanded, after making a very nice defensive play.

Jake Evans is simply in a class of his own and must be considered one of the best defensive forwards in the league.

So I agree with Martin Lemay and I believe that Kent Hughes must sign him, because he will receive several attractive offers this summer, I am convinced.
