With that being said, the club affiliated with the Habs in the ECHL, the Trois-Rivières Lions, confirmed the return of Quebec forward Nicolas Guay, who signed a one-year agreement with the Trois-Rivières team.
After a stay of only eleven games with HC Nove Zamky, where he recorded two goals and three assists, the right winger from Châteauguay decided to leave Slovakia to return to his family in Quebec.
See the official announcement from the Trois-Rivières Lions, right here:
There is no doubt that the addition of Nicolas Guay will help Ron Choules' offense immensely. After all, the 25-year-old forward has gained 23 goals and 47 assists (70 points) in 108 games with the Lions over the last two seasons, proving that he could be a major asset in the ECHL.
Some Quebec fans may remember him from his time in the QMJHL, when he had a 40-goal, 87-point season with the Drummondville Voltigeurs in 2018-19. He has also played for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, the Saint-John's Sea Dogs and the Rimouski Océanic.
Of course, the chances of seeing Nicolas Guay move up the ranks and earn a position with the Montreal Canadiens are practically non-existent, but it is still interesting to take a look at the signings announced in the organization's organizational chart.
As my colleague David St-Jean points out, there are several players who went through the ECHL before making it to the NHL. We can notably think of Brandon Gignac, who did great service to the team last year.
Furthermore, if we go back a little further in time, players like David Desharnais, Michael Ryder and Jaroslav Halak all played in the ECHL before becoming important members of the Canadiens.
In short, it will be very interesting to see what Nicolas Guay can accomplish with the Trois-Rivières Lions this season, he who could become a choice option if the Laval Rocket has a few injuries.
