With the Montreal Canadiens coming off three extremely difficult seasons, fans were hoping that Martin St. Louis' squad could fight for a playoff spot this year.

Unfortunately, the team hasn't had the expected start to the season, so much so that the Habs currently sit 31st in the NHL with a meager haul of just 16 points in 20 games.

Nevertheless, it is important to understand that such a scenario is likely for a rebuilding team such as the Canadiens, who must continue to add players to their roster to be able to compete with the league's powerhouses.

To that end, if the Canadiens continue to struggle, Kent Hughes could potentially draft in the top-5 for a fourth consecutive year, which could have a major impact on the future of the Montreal organization.

The 2025 class is full of extremely talented players, so much that the Habs could get their hands on an offensive prodigy, without even having to hold the very first selection of the draft.

Here are three forwards who, in my opinion, could give the Montreal Canadiens a serious helping hand:

James Hagens

Perceived as the best player of the 2025 class, the 18-year-old center is best known for his vision of the game, he who is an incredible playmaker. He also has an excellent skating stroke and very agile hands, which make him a constant threat in the offensive zone.

Playing in his very first season in the NCAA, Jacob Fowler's teammate at Boston College has amassed one goal and 14 assists (15 points) in 12 games so far this year.

Porter Martone

At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Porter Martone is a well-rounded forward who can be used in any situation, including the power play and the penalty kill. The Brampton Steelheads forward also loves to play tough, and is very dangerous around the opposing net.

So far this season, Porter Martone has recorded 17 goals and 26 assists (43 points) in just 21 OHL games.

Michael Misa

At 17, Michael Misa already has an above-average hockey IQ, which allows him to consistently generate scoring opportunities for his teammates. However, while the forward is an excellent passer, he is also able to complete his own plays, he who reigns at the top of the scorers in the OHL.

The Saginaw Spirit forward has scored 23 goals and 23 assists (46 points) in only 23 games in the Ontario circuit.

In short, it is still far too early to know at what slot the Canadiens will select next June, but if the team continues to string together losses, Hughes could acquire an elite forward for years to come.

The addition of a player like Hagens, Martone or Misa could completely transform Martin St. Louis' attack, allowing the Habs to finally have a true top-6.
