The former NHL defenseman, now playing in the KHL alongside a certain Ivan Demidov, a Montreal Canadiens prospect, has just made a striking statement about another young player in the organization: Logan Mailloux.
Mailloux is off to a hot start to the season with the Laval Rocket, scoring a superb overtime goal yesterday to give his team the win.
In seven games, he has accumulated four goals and 12 points, dominating offensively to the point of attracting attention as far away as Russia.
DeAngelo, himself an excellent offensive defenseman during his NHL career with three seasons of 40+ points, responded to a post by Grant McCagg about Mailloux.
Here is McCagg's post:
And DeAngelo's response:
He said the Habs prospect would not only become a solid NHL player, but he also came to the defense of former GM Marc Bergevin, who was criticized at the time for selecting Mailloux in the first round.
Of course, the criticism at the time wasn't about Mailloux's skills as a player, but about past incidents that tarnished his reputation leading up to the draft.
In spite of that, DeAngelo's comments about Mailloux's potential are flattering and on point.
There is little doubt that the Canadiens got their hands on a high-quality player by selecting him with the 31st pick in 2021, and DeAngelo's endorsement of that is a positive sign.
The future looks bright for Logan Mailloux.
