In the last few hours, we learned that a defender playing within the Montreal Canadiens' organization has officially left.

Indeed, Trois-Rivières Lions defender Lukash Matthews has decided to try his luck in Europe. The 24-year-old defender, who was in his second year in the ECHL, will join the Briançon Red Devils in the Magnus League.

He will therefore join his former teammate with the Lions, Quebec forward William Lemay, who also embarked on a new adventure in France, signing a one-year contract with the Red Devils during the summer.

Note that Lions general manager Ron Choules suspended Lukash Matthews in order to retain his rights, in the chance that Lukash Matthews would wish to make a return from the ECHL.

With an imposing frame of 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Lukash Matthews had been unable to record a single point in 18 games with the Trois-Rivières Lions, posting a differential of +1 during his time with the team.

However, he had been an important member of the Carleton Ravens during his three seasons in the Canadian university ranks, where he put up three goals and 11 assists (14 points) in 42 games in the OUA.

One thing is certain, we wish him the best of luck in this new challenge!
