The Montreal Canadiens are making a lot of noise these days with trade rumors involving Kent Hughes, the team's general manager.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period and Dennis Bernstein, Hughes is currently looking for new players to strengthen his team in a lasting manner.

Hughes wants to add a 2nd or 3rd line forward or a defenseman to his roster, primarily looking for long-term options rather than temporary solutions. This strategy aims to build a strong and balanced team for the seasons to come.

A bit like the acquisition of Patrik Laine.

«The Canadiens are in an interesting position, because, yes, Kent Hughes is active and he is looking to acquire either a 2nd/3rd line forward or a defenseman to stabilize things on the blue line.

At the same time, he is looking for players who will complete his roster in the long term, he does not want short-term solutions.

On the other hand, they have elements that could be short-term solutions for teams aspiring to the Stanley Cup.

Furthermore, the Canadiens could part ways with certain players to fill these needs.

Pagnotta mentions four names that could be of interest to other teams: David Savard, Joel Armia, Christian Dvorak and Jake Evans. These players, particularly Savard and Evans, could garner attractive offers from clubs aspiring to reach the Stanley Cup.

Hughes' current negotiations are the talk of the town and could well transform the Canadiens' roster. At least, the supporters want it to be so.

The next few days will tell us if a transaction goes through, giving Montreal fans new hope to see their team in the mix.
