To the surprise of many, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, decided not to move today and not to claim forward Max Jones on waivers.

Remember that the Habs GM was looking for a forward with grit and character.

Instead, Hughes recalled Lucas Condotta this morning to strengthen the team.

Michael Pezzetta, still in the squad, continues to play a depth role.

The Canadiens have therefore chosen to stay the course with players they know well and who have shown positive signs in their recent performances.

However, that's not all in the world of waivers today. Another name that caught the eye: Lucas Carlsson, a 27-year-old defenseman placed on waivers by the San Jose Sharks.

With good offensive production in the American League and 60 games of experience in the NHL, Carlsson could well interest other teams looking for defensive reinforcement.

For now, it seems that the Canadiens prefers to strengthen his club with internal players rather than adding an additional defenseman.

Even if the Habs have priorities for waivers, Kent Hughes has instead decided not to claim a single player, since the start of the regular season in the National Hockey League.
