This rumor gained momentum after Georges Laraque, former player and now radio host, claimed that one of his friends had seen Gallant in person.
TSN's Pierre LeBrun took the initiative to inquire directly with Gallant. Invited Tuesday to the show "5 à 7" on RDS, LeBrun revealed that he had spoken with the former Rangers coach, who confirmed to him that he had never had any contact with the Canadiens during the whole year.
Gallant, surprised by this rumor, specified that he had not even been approached by the Montreal organization.
LeBrun put forward a hypothesis that is being debated on social medias: Laraque's source may have confused Gallant with John Sedgwick, but according to Hughes, it was rather Adam Nicholas, the third person present during this coffee.
Unemployed since his departure from the Rangers in 2023, Gallant has only held head coaching positions in the NHL between 2014 and 2023. It is therefore unlikely that he will accept an assistant role, although, you never know.
One thing is certain, George Laraque is not done causing talk!
