According to Pierre LeBrun, the star forward of the Montreal Canadiens would have been left out of the American national team's plans for the prestigious 4 Nations Tournament
This is an extremely surprising decision, especially since Caufield was among the best scorers in the NHL before yesterday's game.
What is fascinating about this statement from the TSN journalist is that the final Team USA roster will only be made official in two weeks. However, we already seem to immediately rule out the presence of the 23-year-old maverick.
The disappointment does not only come from the fact that he would not be part of the final roster: he doesn't even appear on the list of the considered players.
Unsurprisingly, you will understand that this treatment towards Caufield makes people unhappy in Montreal.
It's difficult to justify that a player like Caufield, who has already scored 12 goals in just 16 games this season, would be put aside, even depriving him of consideration by the American decision-makers.
We can't wait to see the team's final alignment in order to analyze whether it was really justified to leave out one of the best scorers in the NHL this season.
We suspect that this decision risks to disapoint Caufield, especially since he delayed his vacation last May to participate in the Senior World Championship in the hope of showing off for future international events.
The worst part of all this is that he performed very well with a record of four goals and eight points in as many games, finishing fourth among the best in the team.
Hopefully this won't affect his play or his confidence with the Canadiens.
