Yesterday, the Nashville Predators took everyone by surprise by placing 26-year-old right-handed defenseman Dante Fabbro on waivers.

Today, a team claimed him, to the surprise of many considering his still high salary of $2.5 million annually. To the surprise of Elliotte Friedman, himself.

"Friedman on Headlines says Dante Fabbro likely won't be claimed on waivers due to his $2.5 million salary cap hit, teams can't handle that right now. He's available for trade, hopefully he gets more playing time in the AHL and teams can get a better look at him." -NHL Watcher

Fabbro will therefore take the road to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who were precisely looking for a contract to reach the salary floor, following the death of Johnny Gaudreau.

So, the Montreal Canadiens, who were among the priority teams to claim Fabbro on the waivers, decided to pass on him.

A right-handed defenseman, capable of playing on a top-6 NHL team, it's true that the Canadiens didn't need him. The team has only six losses in a row, ALL IS FINE.

A native of British Columbia, Fabbro was making his first experience with waivers.

He officially began his professional career at the end of the 2018-19 season, following his college stint with Boston University.

Drafted 17th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Fabbro has played 315 career games in the Bettman circuit and has recorded 72 points, including 16 goals. Unfortunately, this season, he has not registered a single point in six games, with Nashville.
