A former Montreal Canadiens player replaces Matvei Michkov: Daniel Brière must be held accountable
It was in the summer of 2023 that forward Anthony Richard decided to leave the Canadiens to join the Boston Bruins organization.
We couldn't blame him, since the Bruins didn't have much depth and the Canadiens had clearly told him that the plan was to have him play in Laval.
Like all players, his dream is to play in the NHL, so he chose to sign for the organization that offered him the best chance.
He finally played 9 games with the Bruins, then he signed with the Philadelphia Flyers organization this season. In seven games, he amassed 9 points, which is very interesting.
He was therefore recalled by Daniel Brière and makes his debut Thursday evening with his new team. The only problem is that he is there at the expense of Matvei Michkov.
You read that right. The young man will be left aside to make way for Anthony Richard. Although we love the Quebecer, if I told you that Ivan Demidov was left out for a Laval player, you would be unhappy and with good reason.
Flyers fans are currently furious with John Tortorella and Daniel Brière. I understand their condition, and I also understand the team's staff to do what is necessary for the sake of the development of their young player.
Having John Tortorella as a coach is not easy, but it brings results. Let's just look at Martin St-Louis, who still relies on him a lot today.
It's certain that the fans are angry and we would be too, but tell yourself that there is a good reason for that and it is often said that a young player learns a lot by watching the match from above.
